Over the past few years, telemark skiing has experienced what can only be described as a rebirth. Telemark technique, which was the only way to ski before the advent of fixed-heel bindings, had almost fallen out of use. Now telemarking is back with a vengeance, and some of the best skiers in the mountain have traded in their step-ins for a pair of graceful Tele-boards.
A full competition circuit has also been built up over the past decade. Telemarking now boasts its own World Cup circuit, and is hoping to be at least a demonstration sport at the Salt Lake Olympics in 2002.
